Closed Punch
One of Mercedes most common challenges of repairing 126 is a high idle. In general, the culprit is electronic, but sometimes a simple mechanical adjustment of the throttle link will solve the problem. Of course, older engines may suffer from leakage of vacuum admission of varying severity, and they can also cause problems slowed. We look at vacuum leaks in another article.
ELECTRONIC CAUSES OF THE HIGH IDLE
- The control module slowed behind the false wall next the ABS control unit is the most common cause of problems. The module controls the voltage sent to the control valve idle, which regulates physical quantity of air delivered to the inlet ports when the throttle is closed. The process modulates a variety of entrees and there is not an area of the circuit that we can report that, for example, frequent use for cracked welds. It is certainly useful to have known work available for diagnostic unit. New units cost well over $ 200 and even rebuilt units are very expensive. eBay can be your friend.
- The valve controls the idle may suffer from two problems. The electric solenoid may fail or, more commonly, the valve is simply destroyed by oily deposits. (Some smoke ventilation crankcase are routed through the valve.) A good soak them in cleaner carb will usually cure this disease. Be careful not to expose the electrical valve solvent.
- Very rarely, there is a problem with lambda control unit, the closest thing these cars have an ECU. The control unit is connected to the idle controller and lambda "Research" from these signals. Generally, if there is a problem with lambda control engine is still malfunctioning (due of incorrect fuel mixtures). If the lambda controller does not work at all, the most common reason is a failure of the overvoltage protection relay (OVP), located in the fuse box. It may also be a poor ground connection. The unit itself seems to be extremely reliable, perhaps because it lives in a cooler climate – Next to the front passenger's feet.
- If the problem occurs only idle when in gear, the starter switch lock on the side of the transmission May be defective.
- If the problem occurs only when the A / C is used, there may have trouble with the delay in the relay fuse box, which aims to boost engine power when the compressor engages, so as to stabilize idle under heavier loads accessory.
- Finally, switch throttle position (TPS) on the side of the throttle body May be defective. This is very unusual, and we should be grateful for that, since the replacement of the TPS requires removing the entire intake manifold. Sometimes, the switch is simply out of control and can be operated in its upright position with a punch long.
The TPS informs the unit Control idle when the throttle is closed, partially open or open. Electrical continuity exists through a pair of three pins through another couple, or not at all. If the correct signals are not sent, the switch itself could be perfectly fine, the problem may simply be that links throttling is out of adjustment. The switch is extremely sensitive, and even the slightest opening of the throttle gas is enough to break the continuity between the relevant pins. So it does not take much pressure excess of the bond disrupting the system. Ensure the butterfly is in fact against closing its case.
